Energy and capacity of Powerwall

Normally An OEM LFP Powerwall with 2500wh, 5000wh, 7000wh, 10 Kwh. 5 kwh and 10Kwh are the most popular one. The only reason is the consideration of the system weight. A 5000wh battery wall is normally 48kg. And a 10kwh battery wall is about 98kg. As we can see, if we build a 20kwh powerwall, then most probably you will not strong enough to carry it or install it to the wall. The most popular home battery storage system is based on 48v. So, we normally offer 48v 50Ah, 48v 100Ah and 48v 200Ah powerwall.

Tips: Based on LiFePo4 battery, you will normally have 2 different version based on voltage. There are 48-volt nominal voltage. The inside cell connection by 15 in series. (15*3.2v=48 volt). At the same time, there is 51.2 volt (16S*3.2v=51.2v). You need contact with your battery supplier which voltage is offered exactly. Basically, both voltages are ok. But we will recommend 51.2v 16S as nominal voltage. if the price is not a major concern by user.

How many pcs of powerwall can I parallel?

Based on our currently BMS. It supports 16pcs lfp powerwall connection in parallel. For example, if you order 48v 100Ah module, you will able use 16pcs battery wall for one system. The system will be 48v 1600Ah. System 81.9Kwh.

Inverter consideration

Check AC voltage of your grid. Most popular standard are 220v, 230v. In USA or CANADA will be 120v or 240v. To build a perfect battery storage system, a qualified inverter is very important. Before you choose the inverter, you will confirm what system you are trying to build.
Off grid or on grid. Off grid is a system for local use only. while a on grid system will sell the electric to grid if the battery system is fully charged.
Then, for normal user, you will select 48v hybrid inverter. Remember it should support Lithium-ion type batteries. Charging voltage is possible set to 54 volt or 58 volts.
The last thing is the communication protocol. RS485 or CAN. Make sure it communicates with battery BMS system. Confirm with Battery supplier if the BMS can support your inverter in terms of communication.

Solar Panels for the Powerwall

There is no fix way to calculation how many solar panels you will need for the system. Different region will be different sun power. Basically, we can have an average 5 hours sunshine each day. Based on 5 hours. A 300W solar panels can generate 1500Wh power. You will need 3.3pcs 300w solar panels to fully charge a 5000wh lfp powerwall. Of case, we can’t install 3.3pcs panels. So, we can install 4pcs panels at least. Remember, all these powers generated will goes to the powerwall. If this power also goes to your load during the day. It will not fully charge a 5000wh batter wall by one day. And you need a fully consideration on your load as well. Same way for 10kwh and more.

Do I need a MPPT to charge the Powerwall?

Yes. You will need a MPPT. Now, most of the popular inverter included the MPPT together. That’s why we suggest to use a hybrid inverter.

Does the Powerwall waterproof. Can you install it outdoor?

The lfp Powerwall is rated IP65. It with basic waterproof function. but you can’t expose it out door for rain. If you must install it out door, make sure you will build a protection for the battery power wall system. Customer can try to install a NEMA 3R enclosure as a protection.

As Powerwall is popular, many electricity fans trying to build Powerwall by themself. We normally say DIY. DIY is really a kind of hobby for most of people. And we have really fun when we make something really works and on our own hand. However, we are only encouraging technical person to handle these kind of DIY jobs.   • 3. The factory use tens of thousands of cells from the original Cell factory. They can get high quality cells and better price.
